The Challenge:
T-Mobile, a leading mobile network operator committed to deploying a robust and high-bandwidth 5G network, sought compelling demonstrations to showcase the transformative potential of this next-generation technology. A key objective for their Tech Experience Center in Bellevue, WA, was to illustrate how the increased speed and capacity of 5G could enable innovative applications and enhance user experiences in practical scenarios. Specifically, they aimed to move beyond abstract speed tests and provide tangible examples of 5G’s real-world impact.
The Solution:
We collaborated with T-Mobile to create an engaging augmented reality (AR) experience centered around a Ducati motorcycle. This “Bike Vision AR” demonstration effectively illustrated how higher-bandwidth 5G networks could revolutionize maintenance procedures and knowledge transfer. The experience featured a volumetrically captured holographic host, appearing alongside the physical motorcycle within the AR environment. This virtual expert guided users through various maintenance tasks step-by-step.
The AR experience was driven by an iPad, which served as the user’s window into the augmented reality world. As the user physically moved around the Ducati motorcycle while viewing it through the iPad’s screen, sophisticated AR tracking technology precisely overlaid digital information onto the real-world bike. These AR overlays visually highlighted specific components and provided clear, step-by-step instructions on how to perform various maintenance procedures, such as checking fluid levels, inspecting parts, or adjusting settings. The holographic host provided verbal guidance and context, creating a seamless and intuitive learning experience.
